Third Week Round Up of 2015

Third Week Round Up of 2015

Greeting to all of you in mofoland! Welcome to the third week round up! As you know by now, these weekly round ups are pretty intense because you guys are still pumping out some awesome vegan content. I couldn’t be more proud of you.

Technically, this is the last week of mofo that we are celebrating summer – next week’s prompts will incorporate more of an autumn feel, as we begin to bid adieu to the lazy days of summer.

Since the time is speeding by, I waste no more of your time just chit-chatting – on with the round up!

FOURTEENTH DAY: Share Something Vegan with a Non-vegan Prompt

Singeries & Boules de Riz

Dinner party! What better way to spread the vegan message and share some great vegan food with as many people as will fit around your table? Antics and Rice Balls (courtesy of Google translate) put on quite a spread, and judging by the caption on the photo, had one heck of a good time.

Sprouts and Chocolate

Jessica shares this gorgeous looking bowl with her friend Kristen. Maybe if Jessica keeps feeding her friend meals like this, she’ll take the vegan plunge. Fingers crossed!

Tracy’s Living Cookbook

Tracy has the right idea and I think we should all do this at one time or another (or lots of times). She brought this decadent looking Chocolate and Pumpkin Loaf to work to share with a bunch of non-vegans. Way to show them how it’s done, Tracy!

FIFTEENTH DAY: Obama is Coming for Dinner Prompt

Tea and Sympatico

T&S put some deep thought into what to serve the POTUS. They ran the gamut from vegan caviar (IKR?) to vegan fish and chips, but finally landed on making chowder. It turns out Obama likes his chowder and I just bet he’d LOVE this version even better.

Neville Noms

More secret info has been discovered: Obama is a broccoli fan! NN has quite a few broccoli recipes in their arsenal and couldn’t just pick one. You better go and check out all the yummy ways to make this tiny tree into a terrific treat.

The Judgmental Vegan

So I couldn’t leave well enough alone and had to dig up more broccoli posts. I landed on this video of Broccoli – wait for it — Nachos! Check it out:

One Raw Bite

Obama deserves some dessert, I think you would agree. ORB thinks so, too, and has decided to make this Cookie Butter Pie. This does, indeed, look really spectacular.

Obama would be one happy president if he was offered any of these dishes.

SIXTEENTH DAY: Favorite Late Summer Food Prompt

My Cat Loves Daiya Cheese

Let’s start this prompt off with an all-encompassing post by MCLDC. She points out that the seasons are about to go through a change and most of our summer produce will soon be gone until next year. Better hurry and treat yourself to the last melon, berry or tomato.

IMAG0406

On the Path to Zen

TZV shares a pretty easy to make recipe, featuring their favorite summer food: okra. I love the texture of this dish and they took the shot close enough to show the texture well. The recipe is Fungi and you should really go take a gander.

Vegan a Montreal

V[a]M loves her corn and, frankly, so do we; few things are as delicious as a fresh picked summer corn on the cob. This photo looks good enough to eat!

SEVENTEENTH DAY: Traditional Local Dish

No Thanks, I’m Vegan

Starting us off on the Local Dish prompt, NT[I’M]V shares a local drink that was invented in Manchester in 1908. It’s really cool to see what all of you are enjoying in your own special locales. It’s very interesting and quite fun!

Twoodlerum

This one is a local Hussein dish: Mashed Peas with Sauerkraut. That is a unique combo that I am itching to try. I have the peas and the pickles in the pantry, so off to the stove I go.

Veg Fiend

The town VF lives in has a large population of Indians and is therefore sharing their local food – dosas. They even do a very nice tutorial on how to make the dosas. Sweet! Just like their Sweet Potato Dosas:

EIGHTEENTH DAY: Honor Your Vegan Inspiration Prompt

My Apologies for the Novel

Who inspired your veganism? Many of us will say that it is the animals, in one fashion or another. MA[for the]N posts what I think we all feel inside. Whether you started your vegan journey for health reasons or environmental reasons, if you haven’t already, you will find that compassion is a central theme.

Vanishing Veggies

Many times our significant other can make or break (or, at the very least, make life very difficult) our compassionate choices. When the one you love supports your vegan journey it is not just a wonderful thing to share, it makes being vegan a joy. Here is to all the lovely, supportive partners in our lives! And here is to Josh!

Vegan Eats and Treats

Seriously, get your hankies ready for a sweet post by VE&T. Amey gets serious about her muses – both human and furry companions. Art, videos and stories! This post has it all:

NINETEENTH DAY: Lunch on the Go Prompt

Vegan Chow Down

Checking in on the lunches we pack to go is as fun as the peak into your kitchens last week. I especially love the prompts for their personal nature. Below VCD shares their Lentil, Tomato and Basil Bruschetta. Doesn’t it look good??

This post is more of a show-and-tell about close to a ton of sandwiches and salads. V4O also links to salad dressings and sandwich ideas. We can always use more of those!

Vegans Need Sauce

VNS shares their pasta salad recipe ideas as well as this delicious looking lettuce wrap, filled with lentils, quinoa and cucumber. Bonus: the park adventure is always a pleasure.

TWENTIETH DAY: Veganize Old Family Recipe Prompt

Veggie Product Reviews

Dawn’s Beyond Beef Mac reminds me of a chili mac (and Dawn says as much), but I bet it holds a bit more importance in her life than just an old remake. Dawn has been posting using the prompts as jump-off points, but she is still following the blog’s theme – veggie product reviews!

Moving Scouse

Remaking this Kirschmichel seems like an easy feat for Moving Scouse. This cherry-based semolina tart looks outrageous! Recipe is provided for your baking enjoyment.

My Blissful Journey

MBJ is part Norwegian, part Irish, and all about sharing great recipes. They have veganized their Norwegian Potato Salad. They also have a bunch more recipes that are worth a look.

Potatoes

So, how is everyone doing? Still chugging along? Good! There is one more Sunday Round Up before a final mid-week round up; come back and catch up on the blogs you might have missed during the week.

Thanks to everyone for blogging, posting and photographing and above all – sharing.  Don’t forget to check Instagram, Twitter and Facebook for daily features.

One more week down and ONLY 10 MORE PROMPTS TO GO! This is Zsu and I blog over at Zsu’s Vegan Pantry. All the best to mofoland!

Second Week Round Up of 2015

Second Week Round Up of 2015

Hey guys! Zsu here, back for your SECOND week round up – we are almost halfway to the finish. Is everyone hanging in there? It’s STILL hot in Cali – I’m looking forward to that autumn prompt, I don’t mind saying. Just maybe the weather will cooperate with the changing of the season.

This week’s prompts were really interesting and I was having a blast searching through your blogs/tubes and grams. We had favorite cookbooks, blue stuff happening everywhere, kitchens being toured and friends being made. Really what it’s all about, isn’t it? Getting to know your blogosphere neighbors.

Get ready for another long post!

SEVENTH DAY: Food Inspired by Book or Film Prompt.

Allotment2Kitchen

A2K starts us off with this Indian-inspired Chickpea, Potato and Mango Chutney Filo ‘Samosa’ Pie which in turn is inspired by Monsoon Wedding. I love a good romance, so this is straight up my alley. Thanks for the movie tip (not sure how this slipped under my radar) and for baking your samosas and encasing them in flowers. Check the post to understand my cryptic clues.

Fake Meat True Love

FMTL shares their vegan Chicken Parmesan made using Breast of Tofu. Inspiration? The classic Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. If only Todd had made Bryanna’s tofu instead of thinking chicken is “vegan.” Come on, Todd! What were you thinking? No fear, though. Mike has you covered.  {Interesting note, I have fond memories of making Bryanna Clark Grogan’s Breast of Tofu. Ah! Memories!}

F[the]vs has an interesting inspiration to her Polenta and Vegetable Inspiration. She basis her recipe on a Lydia Dais story – something that seems to be personal to her. I’ll let you read the post to really see where the inspiration comes from; suffice it to say that the story has a happy ending. At least at her house.

EIGHTH DAY: Make New Vegan Friends Prompt

Don’t Fear the Vegan

DFtV is not just making vegan friends, but is sharing the experiences via videos. Awesome! Now I’ll have to go through their archives and catch up! AND, just found out that this is where Anzia has been hiding! Remember her from last mofo? She was the 11 year old who was sharing what she was eating during mofo, proving that vegan kids are healthy kids.

Evolution of Jill

Making new friends. That’s mofo, right? This is the best time to reach out and get to know one another. That’s exactly what E[of]J did during mofo last year, and is now sharing that experience with us. She’s also making some really great looking GF pancakes. Hope everyone in mofo-land is also meeting new folks!

Vegan Crunk

Are you ready for cuteness overload? Are you sure? Bianca at VC has rescued another (yes, another!) baby squirrel. I won’t spoil the rest of the story, so just take my word for it that you should definitely go read this new friend post yourself.

Now as promised, here you go! Bam!

Mable

You’re welcome.

NINTH DAY: Most Retro Recipe Prompt

Vegga

How far back retro should we go? Vegga did some research (very scholarly, indeed!) and took us back to 42 AD. Now that is class! Besides the culinary anthropology lesson, there is also a highly unique recipe at the end of this link. Kudos!

mustard1

House Vegan

HV takes us on a tour of the evolution of her retro passion. She shares a couple of great 1950’s recipes and her one-of-a-kind story. After you’re done gazing at that milkshake (I know!), go get the complete story and the recipes.

veganfastfoodburgers

Fuck Yeah Vegan Pizza

Besides burgers, retro brings to mind quiche, right? Can you picture a mom in the kitchen, with cat-eye glasses whisking up a this egg-based pie? Well, this is exactly what FYVP pictures when the word “retro” is uttered. But, get this, the crust, is made out of HASH-BROWNS. Retro in style – Hash-brown Quiche!

TENTH DAY – Something Blue Prompt

Tartes and Recreations

Using blue potatoes, T[and]R made this gorgeous tart – Cheesy Potato Tart. In addition to the tart, which sounds simple and elegant,  they are also sharing a heartwarming story of cooking (vegan) food for refugees arriving in their hometown over the past week. Tugs at your heartstrings.

DSF6211

Dandelion Vegan Blog

Since the color blue is such a challenging color of food to work with (as the “blue” is usually purple when all is said and done), thinking out of the box on this one is a good tactic. DVB decided on making vegan Bleu Cheese Dip. It’s inspired me to go and get (and finally use!) fermented tofu to make bleu cheese dip. While I work up the courage to work with it, this recipe looks like it’ll hit the mark – no fermented tofu required.

IMG_2707

Heirloom Commons

Now that I have just stated how challenging it is to find naturally blue foods, get ready to see this gem: Blue Majik Coconut Keffir. HC is making me eat my words because this has to be the bluest naturally occurring food ever. I won’t spoil it for you and tell you what it is. You’ll have to check for yourself (unless, by some chance, you already know what it is – it’s a possibility).

ELEVENTH DAY: Focus on Nutrient Prompt

Eriña & Elinorcita

Although the nutrient from E&E is iron, it is the vessel that the iron is in that attracted me to this post. Beans! I am big on eating beans daily because of their nutrition and I see that I’m not the only one in love with the humble bean. There’s also an insanely delicious looking salad at the site made with beans; worth the time to take a look.

Great Vegan Expectations

Magnesium —> chocolate!

300_4533

Now that I have your attention, indeed chocolate does have a fair amount of magnesium, but, now for the bad news, it’s not good enough. Yeah, this is how Claire got my attention, too — with chocolate and then, BOOM, down came the hammer! The good news is that she has a knack for making magnesium sound interesting and teaches us some tasty ways to get this important nutrient into our repertoire.

Ichiban Vegan

Last one for this prompt is from IV. Don’t stop with the round up, though, and keep scrolling through the blogs because there is a ton of great info out there; you guys rock! Fabulous that vegans are well-informed regarding nutrition. A healthy vegan is a happy vegan.

Check out another vital nutrient and a helpful recipe on how to get it in a delicious way: iodine.

TWELFTH DAY:  Favorite Cookbook Prompt

Green Vegan Living

Gluten free vegan. Many of us are both and GVL points out that you can be both or you can be neither and still love this cookbook:

Fave Vegan Cookbook

Hasta La Vegan

Everyone remembers last year’s mofo at H{la}V? They did recipes from tacky retro cookbooks and posted the results – whether for good or bad or just simply hilarious. It was too much fun! They are back and this time incorporating waffles into each prompt – while still sticking to the topic at hand. Hats off! Fave book? Another Dinner is Possible.

Hello Seedling

Fermented foods! Yes! I love them and now I need to get this book, too! I think these mofo posts might be bad for my wallet.

THIRTEENTH DAY: Kitchen Tour Prompt

justbloggs vegan

I’m a sucker for jars and this adorable kitchen has plenty of them. Take a look around:

kitchen-2 2

Little Vegan Bear

Pride and joy of this kitchen is the spice rack LVB built. Months in the planning and now it is a beautiful reality. Also, since retro seems to be the common thread this week, the oven at their place is awe-some! Tour time!

kitchen3

Little Vegan Eats

Finally, LVE shows us how small spaces can be very functional and efficient. From the baker’s rack to this dish rack (another thing I now find is missing in my life), there are some great ideas in this kitchen. You know, for your next kitchen renovation 😉

BK kitchen

The clock is almost striking one AM and that’s when my mouse turns back into a house and I will no longer be able to type! I’ll see you all around the mofo-sphere! Hope you enjoyed the round up!

Keep blogging out there!

First Week Round Up of 2015

First Week Round Up of 2015

Hi folks! This is Zsu here, on this warm summer Sunday eve. Can’t wait for the cool autumn weather to hit San Diego!

This is the first Round Up of Vegan MoFo 2015 – and I’m super excited to share with you some of my finds this week.

As you know, MoFo has had a face-lift this year and we have been offered clever prompts to guide us through the month. This type of blogging/gramming/tweeting/tumbling/filming is brand spanking new as we have not had any guidance in past mofo seasons.  What do you think of the new theme? Comment below, as I’m dying to know how your first week has passed. If the content of your posts is any way to judge, I’d say you guys are killing it out there!

FIRST DAY: Breakfast Prompt

Morsels and Moonshine

Sort of a throwback to last year’s mofo, M&M reminds us why we might want to wake up in the morning: Boozy Bourbon Apple Butter. It is always best when the day begins with a breakfast dish that has the words Booz and Bourbon in it. Definitely a great start to mofo!

Morsels and Moonshine

Boards and Knives

B&K breaks the day with a smoothie, but because it is a special day (mofo!), they are also including a fancy toast. My kind of breakfast. Avocado any time for me and the smoothie rounds it out. Er, I think they meant the toast to round out the smoothie, but for me, avocado toast rules over all.

Boards and Knoves Day 1

Alien on Toast

A{on}T provides us with a laundry list of items on their breakfast tray. Check it out, but don’t read out loud as you might run out of breath before you’re done:

“Quinoa tabbouleh, with a couple of types of hummus, mashed avocado, rocket with pesto dressing… tonnes of GREAT bread, a hazelnut flute (flute shaped bread studded with hazelnuts and raisins), some fruit bread, some fruit salad and a berry parfait.”

And breathe.

Alien Toast Day 1

SECOND DAY: Childhood Meal Prompt

Plates for Plants

Depending on just how old you are, Shepherd’s Pie could very well be on your nostalgic childhood menu, but P[for]P pulled this one out of left field, given her age bracket would typically call for pizza, pasta or nuggets. Good news! Her vid shows how to make this delectable creation. Nice camera work, too!

Walks, Talks and Eats

Summer. Holiday. France. Aunt’s place. How sweet was your childhood? This one has me topped! Not only that, but her dish is Tomato, Basil, Garlic and Feta Pasta. Light, fresh and easy to make – basically summer in a bowl. Don’t miss the almond feta recipe. I’ll be grabbing my bag of almond flour out of the freezer.

Walks talks and eats

Rock My Vegan Socks

You guys really know how to make the most of summer! Hopefully RMVS brought enough of her revamped Potato Salad via her dad, because there are a ton of people at that potluck! I’ll be joining one myself, because I like to eat great vegan food and it seems the potluckers have the best idea. Ever!

Rock My Vegan Socks

THIRD DAY: Quick, Easy and Delicious! Prompt

Chunky on Chia

This quick and easy Saucy Mexican Tofu Salad fits well into the theme, no doubt. Name of the game: throw it all together and make it tasty! That’s all you need, I tell ya.

Chunky on Chia

Too Cheap for Pine Nuts

Assembling these muffins is as easy as can be, with TC{for}PN‘s method. Check out the quick and easy recipe and call it dinner on the table FAST! They also have some other quick dinner/supper tips that I’ll just have to pinch for my family.

Too Cheap for Pine Nuts

Gront Glaskab

This one has me thrown for a bit of a loop. Google Translate wouldn’t pop up, but the meal sure looks good! Noodles, tofu (maybe), kale, cabbage? I’d still eat a huge bowl of it! If it’s vegan and looks this good? Yes, please!

Grong galskab

FOURTH DAY: Weird Food Combo Prompt

My Blissful Journey

Jennifer does indeed have a story to accompany her condiments. Sort of like a story-condiment. Once you read it, you might recall sharing a similar experience at one time or another. Or at least the frustration of it. I remember this exact thing happened to me when I was volunteering for river clean-up…hosted by my local Humane Society.

Her reasoning for calling it a weird combo is unique, so don’t miss it.

My Blissful Journey

Robynie

I do have to say that most of the “weird combos” I came across during my search for the oddest ones to feature, I found very, very few that are that oddball. Most of the “weird” wasn’t all that odd. There were milkshakes with fries, vegemite with peanut butter, pickles and vinegar…see? not really that odd.

Take, for instance, this dish by Robynie: avocado + pineapple. Go check out the link to see why even this one is rather normal (dare I say good?)

Robynie

Rosie’s Vegan Kitchen

RVK might have one of the most unique flavor combos at mofo, at least of the ones I came across this week. Cold beans + mayo. I will leave you to marinate on that.

Rosie's Vegan Kitchen

FIFTH DAY: Sandwiches Prompt

Seitan is My Motor

SIMM shares her ideas on the best sandwich book ever. I do have to agree. Is there even another one out there? They also share the recipe for the pic below from said cookbook and we are truly grateful. If, that is, you don’t have your own copy.

Seitan is My Motor

Veganopoulous

Banh Mi. There had to at least be one in the mofo field, and here I see it, in all its pickled vegetable and French bread-wrapped glory. Cilantro and hopefully jalapenos graced this delicacy before it was devoured. And Veganopoulous says there are multiple banh mis available at this locale! Would you like some company??

Veganopoulous

quince and kale

q&k is living the life near a vegan deli that is churning out all kinds of magical sandwiches. Ah, to be there with them! I’ll have to settle for the reviews, though, as Australia is a bit of a hike for me.

quince and kale

SIXTH DAY: Restaurant Meal Prompt

Kittens Gone Lentil

We’ve all heard of Veggie Grill, I’m sure; the all vegan fast food joint that is cropping up all over the place. KGL has recreated the Harvest Bowl, and from what I can tell, did a darned bang up job of it, too! She even had the apple sauusage, which is what I think they actually use. Well done!

Kittens Gone Lentil

Modern Martha

MM recreates Spicy Basil’s Tofu in Spicy Peanut Sauce. A self-professed peanut butter addict (actually, I think  they say “love” but “addict” sounds more committed), this dish looks really amazing and if I was gonna order Tofu in Spicy Peanut Sauce, this is actually what I’d expect placed in front of me. So, kudos and please bring enough to share with everyone, next time.

Modern Martha

Vegan Crunk

Direct quote:

“…you know, some nights, you drink your dinner. And some days call for a liquid lunch. Thankfully, this cocktail is loaded with healthy veggies, so it totally makes an acceptable dinner.”

Well said! And since our First Day began with booze, it is only expected that we close this Round Up ending with booze. Sort of the tie that binds it all together. Besides, the bloody thing is made with beets and fresh squeezed veggies! Here is Bianca’s We Got the Beet Bloody Mary. {told you it was a “bloody” thing}

Vegan Crunk

That’s it! My time is up and it is late and I must go, otherwise I’ll sleep too late and miss posting tomorrow’s mofo. I blog at Zsu’s Vegan Pantry; come say hi. Peace.

Spread the word: 2015 VeganMoFo Media Alert for ya!

Spread the word: 2015 VeganMoFo Media Alert for ya!

 mofo15corn

Hello, MoFos! We’ve prepared an official Vegan MoFo 2015 Media Alert for you to share, if you like. This is a way to get a quick summary of what’s in store to local and international (and internet!) press sources. Links & instructions below.

Here’s what to do:

  1. First things first, sign on up for VeganMoFo 2015!
  2. Think & go Google search: What are the local media avenues in my community (state, country, district, town, county, area, favorite blogs, online news sources, etc.)? Is there an alt weekly? Is there a monthly, city-wide cultural magazine and/or website? Where do you see local food & dining news? For example, in Portland, OR, I’d send this to Eater PDX (and there are a ton of Eater sites out there!), Willamette Week, Portland Mercury, Oregonian FoodDay, Oregon Public Broadcasting, Portland Monthly Magazine and a bunch of my favorite culinary-focused blogs. Plus, the huge local vegetarian outreach group, Northwest Veg, other vegan-friendly events that have caught my eye, and maybe, The Kitchn, Serious Eats, and so on. If you’ve been involved with media outlets/events, who are your contacts? Do you have friends that work in PR? Are they relevant and could they help get the word out? Do they like vegan cookies?  Is there a VegFest? Basically, find out their contact email/fax (right?! You can totally send faxes for free online these days in case you actually want to do that). Take note that there is typically a contact specifically *for* media alerts and press releases and calendar info with the bigger outlets. Go cover your ground and spread the word!
  3. Edit and download a personalized or general copy of the official VeganMoFo Media Alert, as linked below.
  4. Save the (ideally revised) Media Alert as a PDF with a clearly marked file name, for example “Media Advisory: VeganMo, The Vegan Month of Food Writing Returns September 2015″
  5. Next, copy/paste the Media Alert content into the actual email message from title down. I like to do this, it doubles your chances of being read. At the top, if I know who it’s going to well, I’ll often include a little note in a different font and color and sign it, like “Hey Darleen, I’d love for you to take a look at this news! I’ve got a whole month of xxx in store and daily updates! Let me know if you would like more information or photos for a story” (or something a little less lame then that, but I hope you get the point).
  6. Make sure you’ve attached a copy of the Media Alert PDF (or Word Doc or whatever you prefer) to the email itself.
  7. Press send and let that baby fly, preferably one at a time, but one big blind BCC can do in a pinch (sorry, old college marketing professors, it’s 2015 and I’m busy!)

And here’s how to do it! There are two versions of our shiny, official Media Alert all ready to go below:

OPTION 1) We’ve got the official Media Alert ready to be personalized right this way and copied below. It is super important to make sure you personalize the red area!

OPTION 2) Here’s a straightforward Media Alert to share as is.

Go, go MoFo!

MEDIA ALERT ?? MEDIA ALERT ?? MEDIA ALERT
Ninth Annual Vegan Month of Food aka “VeganMoFo” returns  September 2015

WHAT

The ninth Annual Vegan Month of Food (aka “VeganMoFo”) returns for another month-long culinary affair, encouraging daily posts beginning September 1, 2015, and bigger + brighter engagements via Instagram updates and daily creative prompts at VeganMoFo HQ (veganmofo.com).

WHO

ABOUT VEGAN MOFO!

VeganMoFo is a grassroots event that evolved from an international community of vegans who love to cook, and are passionate about sharing their love of vegan food with the rest of the world. The idea was first created by famed vegan chef, cookbook author and Modern Love chef/owner Isa Chandra Moskowitz of The Post Punk Kitchen (theppk.com).
Representatives of VeganMoFo HQ are available for more information about VeganMoFo, recipes, photographs, and interview requests.

MoFo 2105 is coming in September!

MoFo 2105 is coming in September!

Oh hello!

The VeganMoFo team are back and we’re here to shake things up!

Blogging has changed a whole lot since Vegan MoFo began thanks to the dawn of social media and the, yeah I’m gonna say it, corporatization of the blogging world. We’ve decided to evolve, diversify, move with the times, and take our beloved Vegan MoFo down a new more contemporary path.

The online vegan community has grown so much in recent years, and our time is stretched thin between our blogs, vlogs, Pinterst boards, cookbook projects, Facebook pages, Twitter and Instagram feeds. But, all too often, the connections we’re making are superficial. MoFo is a time to get to know each other, to make real and lasting connections and to step out of your comfort zone and promote veganism in your own physical communities.

This year you can officially participate in VeganMoFo on your blog, on your vlog and on Instagram. There will be a more simple sign up sheet (watch this space) and we will make lists of all of the bloggers, all of the vloggers, and all of the Instagrammers and have that available here. You can totally be on both lists. There will be no RSS feed this time around. If you tried to use it last year you know, as well as we do, that without Google Reader (RIP) it just isn’t the same and it doesn’t work.

If you’re an Instagram participant using the official hashtags #vgnmf15 as well as #veganmofo is super important and if you’re a blogger make sure you get yourself signed up in time so that we can keep an eye on your creative wonderful MoFoing.

The basic premise of Vegan MoFo still stands – get the word out there about how amazing and delicious vegan food can be. That means using those #’s, tweeting up a storm and sharing far and wide on Facebook. Is there a vegan blogger or Instagrammer out there who you love but who hasn’t participated in MoFo before? Reach out to them! Get them involved!

Whilst we won’t be doing daily round ups here anymore we will be doing weekly round ups as well as Instagram round ups. We’ll also be regramming our favorite Instagram posts on the official VeganMoFo Instagram account.

Now, here’s what you’ve really been waiting for… This is how MoFo is changing. This year’s VeganMoFo is a VeganMoFo Challenge and we’re laying down some official VeganMoFo Challenge guidelines!

Whilst we love it when you come up with amazing monthly themes and challenge yourselves with all kind of off the wall ideas we wanted to give y’all a little guidance this year. If you can make that Eastern European Desserts theme you had in mind fit within our guidelines then power to you, you go for it, but otherwise take a step back from the rigidity of a theme, have a think on our official VeganMoFo Challenge guidelines and join in with as many as you can. We thought it would be really fun for everyone to be talking about the same thing and would give more inspiration than the ole’ here-is-my-green-smoothie posts. (though if you only eat green smoothies, that’s fine!)

The idea is to shoot for 30 posts over the month of September and you can do them all on your blog, all on Instagram or all over the vegan blogosphere or the world-wide VEGAN web. Whatever floats your boat. Pin other mofos that inspire you! SnapChat your vegan secret ingredients! Periscope your kitchen! YouTube recreating a childhood meal with your grandma and treasure it forever. Endlessly discuss things on the PPK. Tag your friends on Facebook to join the fun. Twitter your veganmofo anxieties. Tumblr EVERYTHING!
There will be prizes for participation (more info coming soon!) so try to take part in as many days as you can!
Remember that these are guidelines and open to your interpretation; for example for the Fusion Challenge you could eat at a fusion restaurant (Tex-Mex anyone?) or go all out, pick two cuisines and create a cohesive & delicious (or downright disastrous & hilarious!) dish.

Every day in September will have a different prompt, We will remind you on instagram and twitter what the prompt is for the day but here they all are starting with September 1:

1 Rise and Shine! It’s MoFo time! Tell us about your breakfast.

We are hoping this will be more fun and it will be easier to make connections and get involved. This year you can’t really do it wrong so please join in the fun!

Little Vegan Bear, MoFo Theme: “Music For Your Mouth” What an epic effort! 30 posts in 30 days – plus, great music-themed culinary creations, daily YouTube videos to rock out to while you read the blog post, and food pictures that were completely drool-worthy. molassesmug2I’ve got my eye on this Hot Molasses Mug,
a nice alternative to hot cocoa and packed with iron!

Veggatook on the age-old query: “But where do you get your protein?” Not only that, but they did it with serious style! Each post had delicious-looking recipes and great information about the nutritional value of the ingredients. Combining the joy and merits of compassionate, nutritious and DELICIOUS eating. Huzzah!

Pane casau 024Pane Carasau from Sardinia? Yum.

From Veggie to Vegan spent the month veganizing specialty dishes from across the regions of Italy. Here’s a composite post that links to all the dishes they created, and the regions those dishes originate from. Such a great effort. Plus, FromVtoV is a bilingual blog in German and English, spreading the good word of veganism to even more readers!

My Darling Vegan posted an A-Z series of posts featuring baked goods, veggie-riffic dinners, and tasty treats like this cashew-based Turkish Coffee Ice Cream. So many beautiful pictures and enticing recipes. Plus, so impressed with “X is for Xigua.”

I really loved the “Poesy and Plate” theme over at Tracy’s Living Cookbook. Each post had a poem or excerpt and then a meal inspired by that text. Such nice meals – ranging from quick evening dinners to more ambitious meals, with personal musings about the food and the poem or quote she chose to go with it. For example:

Affinity by Minnie Filson

I wonder if the cabbage knows
He is less lovely than the Rose;
Or does he squat in smug content,
A source of noble nourishment;
Or if he pities for her sins
The Rose who has no vitamins;
Or if the one thing his green heart knows –
That self-same fire that warms the Rose?

Kitchen Experiments spend the MoFo month regaling us with beautiful sweeties – waffles and fruit tarts and cookies and these totally beautiful chocolate-dipped popsicles. Plus the filling is made with hazelnut milk ice cream. I want one!

Congratulations to all the 2014 MoFie Winners
and to all the MoFo participants!

Keep on bloggin’ and we’ll see you next year!

Screen Shot 2014-10-07 at 20.34.57Veg-am, Completely Board    Dawn used old Pinterest recipes all month, veganizing them and making some gluten free.  I have a folder full of bookmarked recipes I haven’t used so I love the idea of going through them and making them for a month.

Screen Shot 2014-10-07 at 20.35.22 New Orleans in Green  Melissa posted a full month of influences on New Orleans food with some recipes. A great history tour!

Screen Shot 2014-10-07 at 20.35.36truffle Team and Sympatico white chocolate matcha truffles  I loved this tea theme and I think these sound amazing. Balls.

Screen Shot 2014-10-07 at 20.36.03photo+(173) Rissoles from Rosie’s Vegan Kitchen  Rosie did an entire month of vegan food in Wales and I loved her variety of recipes. And I love fried potatoes.

The 2014 MoFie Awards! Round One…

The 2014 MoFie Awards! Round One…

Hey there MoFo’s! Jojo here and I’m super excited to be bringing the MoFies back atcha for 2014! Your team of MoFo organisers has been hard at work reading blogs all month (just like you have!) and after much deliberation and even a little voting we’ve picked just some of our favourites.

We also want to thank every single one of you for participating, reading and commenting throughout the month. Without you MoFo wouldn’t exist and we think you’re all amazing. We’ve all loved scrolling through our preferred readers (I’m a Digg kinda grrl these days) and devouring your posts throughout the month; whether you were posting pictures of your cats photo-bombing your food shoots, celebrating anniversaries or taking us on your vacations we’ve loved every second. Without you MoFo wouldn’t exist and we think you’re all amazing.

This is just round one, round two will be posted tomorrow and round three will be coming your way the day after that. Every single one of our winners will receive a prize from MoFie sponsors The Raw Chocolate Co. Uh huh, you heard that right, prizes! We’re kicking it up a notch this year!

RCC logo vector-hiresIf you see yourself here just drop us an e-mail (many links to the address can be found here) with the subject headline MoFie and your address deet’s and we’ll get your prize in the post.

Without further ado I present The 2014 MoFie Award Winners…

Screen Shot 2014-10-07 at 18.36.09Screen Shot 2014-10-07 at 19.37.14Most Ridiculous Theme goes to Hasta La Vegan for her Bizarre and Outdated Cookbooks theme which was HILARIOUS. Seriously, most of the cookbooks were ridiculous (Pineapple Party Time anyone?) and some of the recipes from those cookbooks (see above!) were even more ridiculous. Hilarity ensued almost every day and I found myself cheering when she made something that actually looked edible! Hasta La Vegan also posted 32 times during the month which kinda deserves it’s own award!

epic_650x15015300469832_d565196dac_zMost Epic Post goes to Kelly from Easy Vegan for her All the Bacon and Eggs I Have post which was part of her (totally epic) Carbs & Recreation theme. If you’ve seen Parks and Recreation you know how often food gets mentioned and if you haven’t seen Parks & Rec what are you waiting for? It’s hilarious! Ron Swanson’s “just give me all the bacon and eggs you have” line is a classic and props to Kelly for veganising this one with all of the vegan bacon and eggs she had!

Screen Shot 2014-10-07 at 18.36.34OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERABlog That Made Us Want to Jump on a Plane goes to Mammi for her adventures in Finnish Coffee Culture. Her posts on the Finnish Coffee Table had us rapt all month and I know I seriously considered purchasing a plane ticket and popping over to eat some of the delicious treats this blogger was whipping up in the kitchen. The Åland Pancake (shown above) was a particular favourite of mine and I loved the daily random facts, I felt like I was learning something about Finland as well as gazing at food which was super cool.

Screen Shot 2014-10-07 at 18.36.58IMG_3997-e1409956930397-300x225Most Epic Journey goes to Vegan Nom Noms. I know first hand how hard it is to blog from the road sometimes and Nicole kept it up all month. Nicole currently lives in Germany but she spent September road tripping across the USA, she was in Atlanta, Portland, Austin, New Orleans and a tonne of other places and she found that delicious looking box of chocolates in Anchorage, Alaska. Nice one Nicole!

Screen Shot 2014-10-07 at 18.37.11Speedy_Delivery_600x900The Community Spirit award goes to Cadry of Cadry’s Kitchen for organising the Speedy Delivery Postcard Swap. We loved the idea of this international event and people were sending postcards, letters and packages all over the place. It was so great to watch!

Screen Shot 2014-10-07 at 18.37.31ImageMost Mouthwatering Instagram Account goes to kippysnacks. For the first year ever we opened up MoFo participation to our Instagram friends, some people went Instagram only and some people used it alongside their blogs. I was the person re-posting some of the things that caught my eye on the official VeganMoFo Instagram account so I was all up in your pictures and one account that really stood out was Kip’s. She was posting pictures from the Vegetarian Festival in Thailand as well pictures of food she’d been eating at home in London interspersed with hostel kitties and more. Great work!

That’s it for today folks, check back tomorrow for round two!
