Giveaway: Divine Vegan Desserts

Giveaway: Divine Vegan Desserts

Good morning, Australia! It’s giveaway mania this week at Vegan MoFo HQ, but I know as well as the rest of you just how disheartening the words ‘US only’ can be. You’ve earned a reward too, so today’s giveaway is just for the MoFo-ers in the land down under.

While the world of vegan cookbooks often introduces us to some new and super fun American baking traditions (seriously, how many of you had ever made a pumpkin pie before going vegan?), sometimes I want to whip up something a little more familiar and CWA-worthy. Lisa Fabry’s Divine Vegan Desserts is the best of both worlds, with recipes ranging from tiramisu to sticky date pudding. If you’re anything like me, the mere thought of a caramel-filled chocolate almond fudge shortbread recipe will send this book to the top of your ‘must have’ list.

In addition to some impressively creative recipes and beautiful photos, Divine Vegan Desserts also features profiles and recipes from some of the world’s top vegan restaurants- including some of my favourite locals. The sight of Bliss Organic on the pages sure warmed the cockles of my Adelaide-born (and subsequently Canberra-chilled) heart.

Thanks to Lisa and Wakefield Press, we have two copies of Divine Vegan Desserts to give away. Just leave a comment below before the end of Vegan MoFo, letting me know your favourite childhood baked treat that you’d love to see veganised. Make sure to leave a valid email address to contact you, and I’ll end on those two sweet words… Australian only!

GIVEAWAY – A one year subscription to Chickpea Magazine

GIVEAWAY – A one year subscription to Chickpea Magazine

This giveaway is now closed, thanks for playing
Have you had a chance to read Chickpea Magazine yet? It’s beautiful, filled with pictures and articles and very different from your typical ad filled magazine. The Kitchn reported:

Cara Livermore, founder of Hipsterfood and the editor-in-chief of Chickpea, says she launched the magazine in part to “celebrate and normalize veganism” as well as focus on “well-thought out stories and features, appealing to everyone, [and] made beautiful to attract vegans AND non-vegans.” Each issue features whole-food recipes, photography, articles and stories “from small-kitchen busy moms to professional chefs, and everyone in between.”

The printed version is a full 8.5″x11″ with no ads, and you can buy back issues here for $20. Or else just read the issues online! Look for the new Summer issue to hit the (virtual) stands later this week.”

Chickpea is giving away a ONE YEAR SUBSCRIPTION to ANYONE IN THE WORLD! All you have to do TO ENTER: Let me know your favorite post that you wrote during this year’s Veganmofo in the comments below with a link. If you didn’t write one please link to a favorite that you read. Please make sure to include and email that you regularly check so I can send it to Chickpea. Thanks and enjoy the last couple days!

GIVEAWAY – Betty Goes Vegan

GIVEAWAY – Betty Goes Vegan

This Giveaway is Closed
betty coverLike many of you, I love to get a brand new cookbook and read through it. If a book I’ve been lusting after just ends up being a bunch of recipes I’m kind of disappointed. When I fork over my cash for a cookbook I want it all, great recipes are a given, so I also want to get to know the author’s approach to cooking, what inspired them to make recipes, and if dishes are really good or zomg the best ever. If you feel the same way as me you are going to love Betty Goes Vegan by Annie & Dan Shannon. After reading through it I feel like I know them. I learned how cooking through the Betty Crocker Books helped Annie figure out what made her happy in life, their love of animals, each other, and so many of their favorite movies and tv shows. I loved it.

This book is very different than the typical vegan cookbook in that the focus is on using convenience foods to easily make American classics. So you won’t find recipes for entrees like Millet with Butternut Squash and Mushroom Gravy, instead it’s more like Pork Chops made with Match ground pork, Vegan Fried Eggs (with noochy yolks injected inside tofu) and Beer, Bacon, & Pepperjack Biscuits. I love buying vegan products and supporting vegan businesses but I never know what to do with all the substitutes & this book has already come in so handy. I also love that if I am thinking of a random American entree, like chicken and waffles, I can just open the book and find an easy recipe for it. And there is a chapter dedicated to casseroles! And Annie is an olive lover! And there is a holiday chapter that even tells you how to deep fry a tofurkey! And of course if you don’t like Gardein products or whatever you can always use your own homemade seitan or tofu.

I think this would be a great book to give to the next person who asks you “do you just eat salad?”. They will be shocked! Or if your mom doesn’t know how to make food for you for Thanksgiving, or if your partner is craving a meat & potatoes kind of meal, this would be the perfect book to give them. And now you can because we are giving away 5 copies!

TO ENTER– Post below what is your favorite vegan substitution product. Is it the So Delicious Coconut Creamer in your morning coffee or the Food For Lover’s Queso you pour all over your chips? Whatever it is, let me know below and also make sure to add an email that you check and have a US or Canada address.

GIVEAWAY- Cheers to Vegan Sweets

GIVEAWAY- Cheers to Vegan Sweets

This Giveaway is Closed
cheers to vegan sweetsOne of my favorite veganmofo themes this year is Kelly Peloza’s Seitan Beats Your Meat. All month long she has been posting amazing Mad Men inspired recipes and photos and since I recently just re-watched the whole show it’s super fresh in my mind. It’s so fun to relive the whole show through vegan food!

Kelly is also a cookbook author and her newest book “Cheers to Vegan Sweets” is going to be available November 1st. All the recipes are inspired by cocktails like Bloody Mary Biscuits and Margarita Ice Cream or beverages like Apple Cider Donuts & Mexican Coffee Truffles. I’ve looked through the book and it’s gorgeous. There are full-page photographs throughout and the chapters are set up intelligently into sections like “The Café”, “The Lemonade Stand”, and “The Cocktail Lounge”.

Even though the book isn’t available until November 1st Fair Winds is giving away a copy to a luck mo-foer with an address in the US, Canada or the UK. All you have to do is tell me a cocktail or beverage that should never ever be turned into a dessert. Like a Kombucha filled doughnut. Please leave an email that you check in the comments too!

GIVEAWAY – Pies and Tarts with Heart

GIVEAWAY – Pies and Tarts with Heart

THIS GIVEAWAY IS CLOSED. THANKS FOR ALL THE FUN ANSWERS!

I love making pies in the summer even though it’s a thousand degrees in my kitchen. The only thing better than a freshly made cherry pie is maybe a peach pie. Or a tart made of fresh tomatoes from the garden. It’s hard to say. Then we turn the corner into fall and it becomes all about the apple pie and then the holiday sweet potato pies and pecan pies. In the dark of winter I love nothing more than a comforting shephard’s pie or a pot pie. Dynise Balcavage’s new book has all of these pies and more and I can’t wait to get my hot little hands on it. There are all the traditional pies I mentioned, quiches, creamy pies, tarts, raw food pies, and even imposter pies like whoopie pies and pizza pie and savory pies like “Hashbrown Crusted Breakfast Pie” & “North African Inspired Kale Pie”.

I could eat nothing but pie and be completely happy and soon you can too because Fair Winds Press is giving away 4 copies of the book! Also I’m excited to let you know that the book will be available internationally so everyone can participate.

To enter just comment below, with an email address that you check, and tell me about your favorite movie, tv show, song, painting, multimedia installation, art work, or any other media about pie! And pizza counts. The best entries will win a copy of the book.

Have fun!

GIVEAWAY – Navitas Naturals

GIVEAWAY – Navitas Naturals

CONTEST CLOSED

With all the taco cleansing and ice cream eating I’ve been doing these last few weeks of Veganmofo, smoothies are about the only way I’ve been getting my RDA of nutrients. Adding Navitas Natural superfoods to my smoothies makes me feel like a super smurf. According to their website, their mission is to “bring energizing superfoods to North America to invigorate the modern ‘Western’ diet. Our organic superfoods come from ancient cultures around the world where they are traditionally used for both nutritional and medicinal purposes. Health-conscious people choose our nutrient-dense superfoods because they are an abundant whole-food source of antioxidants, protein, essential fats, vitamins, minerals and other key nutrients.” They also add a lot of extra flavor. I recently acquired Kathy Patalsky’s lovely 365 Vegan Smoothies and I’ve learned lots of different ways to add these to my smoothies. My favorite is the Cacao powder, it adds so much more chocolatey flavor than the nibs.Navitas CollageThe hemp seeds and the chia seeds are both excellent for adding some omega-3 fatty acids into my body and goji berries are full of all kinds of magic. And they are delicious. Navitas has tons of different options too, from camu powder, to dragon fruit, and wheat grass you are sure to find something to wake up your smoothie.

GIVEAWAY – Earth Balance

GIVEAWAY – Earth Balance

GIVEAWAY CLOSED

My favorite product to come out in this last year isn’t some cheese or meat replacement and it’s definitely not an über healthy raw concoction. No my friends, the Earth Balance Puffs have quickly climbed to the top of my snacking desires.

The aged white cheddar is shockingly realistic and the puffy crunchy texture is snack food at it’s finest. And they are even gluten free! I have long been a fan of Earth Balance products, their vegan buttery spread is a staple at our house for everything from homemade hashbrowns to cinnamon raisin bagels and the sticks are so helpful for Christmas cookie baking sessions. Lately they have been coming our with tons of amazing new products like coconut spreads, mayo-like dressings, and a range of soy milks.

TO ENTER If you would like to try one of the new products, or want to stock up on one of your old favorites they are sponsoring a giveaway today for 5 VIP coupons that will get you any of their products for FREE. All you have to do is comment below with a link to a new blog that you have discovered during this veganmofo. I will randomly pick a winner at 11 AM CST September 13. GIVEAWAY from Capital City Bakery

GIVEAWAY from Capital City Bakery

UPDATE 9/10 Giveaway is closed

If you haven’t been lucky enough to try Capital City Bakery‘s delicious treats, part of me thinks that your better off for never having known true bliss. I first met the owner, Kristen, through putting on bake sales in Austin. Not only would Kristen always donate a generous amount of cupcakes, but, they were also the most tasty and the most beautiful of all the cupcakes at the sale. She made it super easy to raise a ton of money for all sorts of good causes. When she started her own bakery trailer I couldn’t have been more thrilled because this meant access ALL THE TIME. The trailer has been such a success that she has plans to open a full on brick and mortar store and they are going to have Sunday brunch too! There is even a kickstarter which you should totally contribute too (one of the prize packages is specifically for out of towners) or watch the movie to learn all about it and see how cute she is! Or you can follow her on instagram if you like being tortured with food porn.

Capital City has been generous to giveaway a couple of her glorious brownies for you veganmofo-ers! These are the same brownies that were at Vida Vegan Con this year and you will have one bite and say, “What the hell makes the brownies so decadently good”? Kristen says it’s magic and I pretty much believe her.

TO ENTER all you have to do is comment below with a link to someone’s veganmofo post that has a recipe for brownies, blondies, or any other delicious baked good. It doesn’t have to be one of yours but it does have to be from 2013’s veganmofo and you must have a US address to send the brownies too. Two lucky winners will be chosen randomly out of eligible posts at noon CST 9-10-2013

Chickpea Mag Giveaway!

Chickpea Mag Giveaway!

Update: the lucky winners are….

Kelly Garbato (Summer ’12 issue)

hungryvegan (Fall ’12 issue)

Congrats!

Hello MoFoers! Have you heard of Chickpea Magazine? If not, you are in for a treat. Chickpea is an all-vegan magazine featuring delicious recipes, gorgeous photography, and fascinating articles from volunteer contributors. Look, I’ve worked for a (different) vegan mag, and I can say that without a shadow of a doubt, Chickpea is awesome. There might even be a Chickpea-sized morsel of sadness missing in your media life if you haven’t yet uncovered this hip publication full of vegan wonders.

But we have you covered. Chickpea has generously offered two issues of the magazine (one of the summer ’12, and one fall ’12) to two separate lucky US residents. Sorry internationals! We have done our best at MoFoHQ to open many giveaways to non-US residents this year (believe me, because I do not reside in the US and there are MANY giveaways I would have loved to entered had I not been obviously affiliated with the organizers). Anyway, we don’t need you to post this to Twitter/Facebook/Pinterest/email it to your grandma or anything like that to enter. Simply comment on this post and I’ll pick the winners randomly by November 2. Which is soon, so comment away!

Good luck, and happy halloween!
