May MiniMoFo Roundup

May MiniMoFo Roundup

It’s the end of May, and time for our monthly MiniMoFo roundup! This month, we asked to hear all about your favourites. It’s been great seeing the different interpretations of this prompt – from favourite foods, to favourite restaurants, and more.

@lisasprojectvegan

may1

For Mother’s Day, Lisa went to Modern Love Brooklyn, our very own Isa Chandra’s restaurant! It’s easy to see why this could be someone’s favourite place. Grilled asparagus with cashew hollandaise? Yes please! Check out her instagram post for photos of the other courses she had – all delicious looking.

@veganfeastcatering

may2

Where would a vegan be without their avocado? I’m sure it’s a firm favourite of many vegans and Janet from Vegan Feast Catering is no exception. Also, how perfect does this avocado look? Jealous here!

@things2eat

may3

Moon’s account on instagram is packed full of mouthwatering meals, and her birthday meal is no exception (Happy Birthday!). She followed it up with a chocolate brownie, which makes it even better!

Herbivore’s Heaven

may4

Jenny blogged about one of her favourite restaurants, Lotus Vegetarian Kitchen in Manchester. She posted about a huge variety of foods her and her family ordered – including these prawn toasts, which she describes as “a deep fried toastie” – which definitely sounds very appealing.

@lisarturner

may5

Lisa’s favourite dessert is strawberry and rhubarb crisp – a classic combination, perfect for a summer fruit harvest. She’ll be posting the recipe to her blog soon, so that’s one to look out for!

@juli.ane_x

may6

Juli went to Kent’s first vegan pub – and this “Elvis burger” with peanut butter, pickles, and vegan bacon certainly looks like a good favourite to have. Yum!

Walks, Talks, & Eats

may7

Emma shared her favourite food – chocolate! This time, in the form of chocolate cake. Chocolate cake is always something we can get on board with!

Alien on Toast

may8

Sal shared a blog post with her current favourite foods – including Tofoo, a new type of tofu she makes scramble with. Plus, ice cream, pancakes, tea, and more – some great favourites to check out!

@dimsimkitty

may9

Susan also went to her favourite restaurant, Easy House Vegetarian, where she ordered yum cha, including bean curd rolls. They look intriguing and delicious!

Living the Dream

Jen from Living the Dream came through with another wonderful video sharing not one but two of her favourite things – kombucha and tiramisu! She also shares the recipe for the tiramisu on her blog. Watch the video and enjoy!

My Apologies for the Novel

may10

Julie shared a round up of her favourite things – including a corn & mac bake (the recipe is on her blog) and many more tasty things.

@nicolearciello

may11

Nicole made pepperoni pizza and pepperoni bread with her homemade pepperoni…any guesses as to her favourite food?

Thank you to everyone who participated in this month’s MiniMoFo, stay tuned to find out what we’d like to see in June!

March MiniMoFo Roundup

March MiniMoFo Roundup

March has come to an end and it’s time to round up this month’s wonderful recipes! We asked you to create stuffed and filled foods which has been interpreted in some lovely ways by our MoFo’ers.

My Apologies for the Novel

march1

Julie made vegan stuffed pasta shells! Using different types of vegan cheese and sauces (including a chipotle vegenaise!) these sound and look like great comfort food.

@onewindowsarah

march2

The first of this month’s sweet potato recipes comes from Sarah, who made a simple but tasty looking lunch, stuffing potatoes with arugula, olives, tahini, lemon, and hot sauce. Mmm!

Vegan Yack Attack

march3

Jackie from Vegan Yack Attack also used sweet potatoes this month! She made burrito-stuffed sweet potatoes, filled with beans and rice, salsa, and guacamole. What a great idea!

Herbivore’s Heaven

march4

Jenny wrote about her visit to a pasta restaurant! That’s right, a restaurant dedicated to pasta – and it has vegan options. She had a mushroom ravioli for a main, followed by chocolate ravioli. Yes, chocolate ravioli!

Walks, Talks & Eats

march5

Emma did some baking for this month’s prompt and made Bourbon Biscuit Brownies. Brownies stuffed with filled chocolatey biscuits – chocolate galore!

@thehale_vegan

march6

The Hale Vegan made stuffed bell peppers – filled with red quinoa, beans, taco seasoning, and topped with salsa, avocado, vegan cheese and cilantro. Some great flavours here!

@veganinbrighton

march7

Jojo made this amazing mac-and-cheese toastie! What could make vegan mac and cheese better, but putting it in a sandwich? And toasting it? Heavenly!

@diannewenz

march8

Dianne shared her recipe for lentil stuffed eggplant. Don’t they look so cute and tasty?

@piesforpdx

march9

Vegan bakers Pies for PDX made cheezy broccoli potato hand pies to sell at a charity bake sale – I bet they went down a treat!

Living the Dream

Pieorgi

Jen never misses a MiniMoFo prompt, and this month she delivered with these cheezy bacon pierogi and some sweet little hand pies.  You can check out the recipes on her blog.

Thank you to everyone who participated in this month’s challenge – and keep an eye out for April’s prompt, coming soon!

March MiniMoFo!

March MiniMoFo!

It’s time for March’s MiniMoFo!

This month we’re looking for all kinds of stuffed and filled foods.

We’d like to see all kinds of interpretations of this prompt – will you make savoury food? Sweet food? Something in between? You could stuff a cupcake or a courgette, fill a cookie sandwich or a dumpling – whatever takes your fancy.

As always, tag us on social media with #MiniMofo and #VeganMofo, or comment on this post with a link to your MiniMoFo post!

At the end of the month, we’ll post a round up featuring many of the month’s best creations – check back to see them all!

January MiniMoFo Round-up

January MiniMoFo Round-up

The first month of 2017 is over! We hope the new year has given you opportunities to try lots of new vegan food as per our MiniMoFo prompt. It’s been great to see the posts and pictures that have been shared!

@garrickstegner

janroundup1

Garrick used a new-to-him krumkake machine (passed down through his family!) to make fortune cookies. Isn’t it a beautiful piece of equipment?

@madhatterspantry

janroundup2

The Mad Hatter’s Pantry visited a burger restaurant which was doing a discount on vegan food. They had a cajun burger and oreo milkshakes – all vegan! It’s great to see restaurants trying new vegan food.

RubberCowGirl

janroundup3

Rachael has been posting a step-by-step guide on “How to Go Vegan”, which includes the task of “trying new foods”. She made beautiful spring rolls stuffed with watermelon radishes!

@zuckerbaby.1

janroundup4

Zuckerbaby made buffalo tofu for the first time, and doesn’t it look mouth-wateringly delicious?

Living The Dream – Deer Run B&B

Jen from the Deer Run Bed & Breakfast produced this amazingly informative video about “fire cider”. I’ve never heard of it before, but it certainly sounds interesting!

Herbivore’s Heaven

janroundup5

Jenny did a blog post with new vegan products she’s tried – including these chocolate filled churros – yum!

My Apologies for the Novel

janroundup6

Julie has been trying a new recipe each week this month, including these Lentil Sloppy Joes served with waffle fries.

Thank you to everyone who participated in this month’s MiniMoFo! It’s been wonderful reading about all the food you’ve been eating.

Looking forward to February, we’re going with a coloured theme – Red. As usual, interpret this any way you want – red meals, red ingredients, even red cutlery – just show us something with the theme of “red”. Remember to tag us on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook with the tags #VeganMoFo and #MiniMoFo!

Final Week Roundup 2016

Final Week Roundup 2016

It’s December now, and VeganMoFo is over for another year! We really hope you’ve enjoyed this month and have both created and discovered lots of wonderful vegan food. It’s been great seeing people from all over the world post about veganism and vegan food all month long, and hopefully this month has inspired you to keep up the vegan eating!

For this final round up, I’ll include a mixture of posts that followed the daily prompts, and posts that didn’t. The prompts and weekly themes have proved an excellent way to keep things interesting and see how different people interpret them, but it’s also been fascinating to see others create their own themes and post food outside of the prompts! I’ll also include lots of posts, because it’s been very hard to choose and I’d like to showcase as much as possible!

Finally, we’d like to say thank you to everyone who participated this year – it’s been wonderful to get to know you all. This isn’t the last you’ll hear of us though – we’ve got some great plans in the works for VeganMoFo, so stay tuned and stay vegan!

Day 28: Holiday Bake Day! What are you planning on baking over the winter holidays? Do you make cake, or cookies? Or something savoury?

My Darling Vegan

roundup1

Mm, don’t these pretzel tarts look amazing? Salted sweet treats are all the rage at the moment, and mixing crispy, salty pretzels with sweet creamy chocolate ganache sounds heavenly!

Elephantastic Vegan

roundup2

Ok, so how adorable are these elephant shaped gingerbread cookies from Elephantastic Vegan? And they match the blog name too! These cookies are made without molasses, which is great if you don’t like using it or find it hard to get hold of.

SororiTea Sisters

roundup3

Jennifer over at SororiTea Sisters (what a great name!) has been blogging a month of vegan tea! For holiday baking day, she posted this “Chocolate Marshmallow Spicier Chai”, which comes with vegan white chocolate chips and vegan marshmallows – definitely sounds like something you’d bake!

Vegan Dollhouse

roundup4

Vegan Dollhouse baked this absolutely adorable Grasshopper Cake. The little kitty chocolates on the top are handmade – and flavoured with mint extract. This is definitely a very impressive holiday bake.

@pepajobo

roundup5

Rather than bake cookies or cake, Jobo baked lasagne! And Thanksgiving lasagne at that – with mushroom gravy, sweet potatoes, green beans, turkey spiced yuba, kale, and all topped with stuffing. Uhm, who is hungry right now? I know I am.

Day 29: Holiday Test Run – It’s always good to practice – show off your hits and misses.

@veggiessavetheday

roundup6

Amy from Veggies Save the Day (I’ve come across some great blog names this month!) plans to make this Creamy Sundried Tomato Pasta for Christmas. I’m never going to say no to pasta and this looks so creamy and tomatoey it’ll be just perfect for a special meal.

@curupita

roundup7

Curupita on instagram tested out this pecan pie from Whole Foods, which will form part of their family Christmas. How great is it that you can buy pies as delicious as this from shops these days?

@vegannotjustgreens

roundup8

NotJustGreens has been traveling for part of MoFo and came across a gelato shop with some wonderful vegan options – including this very seasonal candy cane gelato. Also pictured are peppermint mocha, lavender hibiscus, and coconut ginger. Don’t those flavours sound amazing?

@garrickstegner

roundup9

Garrick has been posting some very innovative, delicious looking meals this VeganMoFo and this looks to be no exception. Apparently, their Christmas consists of mashed potatoes, gravy, and meatballs, which sounds pretty great to me!

@olivesfordinner

roundup10

Erin posted her lunch, which was yam pancake with garlic bok choy – doesn’t it look so simple and delicious? And such a good looking photo too which is always a bonus!

Day 30: Food Gifts – Do you like to give food as a gift? Or receive? Show/tell us!

84 Acres

roundup11

Sarah posted her recipe for Easy Vegan Eggnog – I’ll leave you with a quote from her: “This creamy vegan eggnog is so thick that it basically requires booze” – yeah, that sounds pretty good to me. Made with aquafaba – the new vegan miracle food – this sounds like a great way to make a Christmassy treat.

@spabettie

roundup12

Kristina made this super fluffy and tasty looking cinnamon roll which would be great as a holiday gift. Who would turn down cinnamon rolls?

@sophigramme

roundup13

Sophie shares a gift that she loved receiving. These Québécoise strawberries were brought to her by her in-laws and look very tasty – I wish it was strawberry season again!

Allotment 2 Kitchen

roundup14

Shaheen made a wonderful post cataloging many jams and chutneys she has made over the years as holiday gifts. Pictured is Rose Petal and Rhubarb Butter which sounds – and looks – quite beautiful.

@cookiesnstyle

roundup15

Cookies&Style made this lovely oatmeal with gingerbread which looks adorably festive and warming. The spices of the holiday season are one of the best parts!

Herbivore’s Heaven

roundup16

Finally, our own Jenny managed to sneak one final post into VeganMoFo today (we’ll allow it!). She posts a monthly “Cookbook of the Month” and this month she used VeganMoFo as her own cookbook! Featuring recipes from MoFo’ers across the board her post shows just some of the amazing recipes which have come out of this month. If you’ve found any recipes you enjoy, or food which inspired you this VeganMoFo I encourage you to follow her example – let the author of the post know how it turned out and how you liked it, as it’s great to get feedback on your food, and it means you can keep in touch and find more great recipes!

Second Week Roundup 2016

Second Week Roundup 2016

Well, that’s two weeks of VeganMoFo done – are you enjoying it? This week has been amazing in terms of the great food and stories we’ve seen and heard shared by you guys! It’s been wonderful reading about food from your hometowns, and food from all around the world too, in International Week.

Next week is Rainbow Week and we’re looking to see plenty of colourful foods in the coming days.

Below are a few of this week’s wonderful dishes and posts, be sure to check them out, and come back next week for more great food! Meanwhile, don’t forget we are on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, and we also have a newly released Android App for you to follow some of the great participants this year. We’re also at the tags #vgnmf16 and #veganmofo – don’t forget to tag us!

Day 7: Close to Home – Make a food from your own country, state, or hometown.

Little Vegan Bear

Little Vegan Bear made this delicious sounding Lebanese roasted cauliflower salad. Roasting cauliflower is a wonderful way to prepare this vegetable, and this beautiful looking salad, with pops of colour from pomegranate seeds, promises to be very tasty!

roundup1

Vegga

Kelly shared a post with not only some beautiful photographs of Ireland, but these tasty looking Irish Potato Farls. She pictures them served with vegan butter and jam, but you can also have them as part of a full cooked breakfast – how good does that sound?

roundup2

Tahini Kill

Renée wrote a wonderfully informative post about a food I had never heard about before – the bunya nut. Hailing from South-East Queensland, in Australia, these nuts used to be centre of Aboriginal Australian festivals, and each cone of nuts can weigh up to 10KG! The blog post features suggestions for cooking the nuts, as well as recommended reading on many topics including Australian history.

roundup3

Day 8:  Far Away – If you dug straight down, where would you come out? Make something from that country!

Vegans Need Sauce

Emily found out that if she dug straight threw the earth she’d come out near-ish Madagascar. She made a pumpkin stew with peanuts and an avocado salad – both of which sound lovely!

roundup4

@femmefocale

Shannon also lives the other side of the world to Madagascar! Her pumpkin stew with peanuts is called “Voatavo sy Voanjo” and also looks delicious, served with coconut rice. It’s great to see two different interpretations of the same dish.

roundup5

My Apologies for the Novel

Julie dug straight down and came out in Australia, where she made Fairy bread. Fairy bread is white bread, (vegan) butter, and sprinkles. It is a very cute food! Julie’s blog also features daily cat photos which is always a good thing.

roundup6

Day 9: Something Different – Cook a cuisine you’ve never tried before. Or, one you don’t make often enough.

Gonna Go Walk the Dogs

For a cuisine she’s never cooked before, this Ethiopian meal really looks tasty! Ethiopian cuisine lends itself to veganism well, and a meal may consist of several different dishes served on a bread called “injera”. Janet shares a recipe for berbere sauce, one of the mainstays of Ethiopian cooking, and recommendations for other Ethiopian dishes to make yourself.

roundup7

@things2eat

Moon decided to cook Jewish food, and made an apple-cinnamon kugel. It looks like delicious comfort food – perfect for the winter months!

roundup8

Vegan à Montréal

Babette from Montréal made mücver, which are Turkish zucchini pancakes, traditionally made with dill and parsley, and bound with chickpea flour. She served them with a very spicy harissa, tomato salad, and a cashew-yoghurt sauce. Looks good!

roundup9

Day 10: Fusion Food – Take two cuisines and make them work together.

Tartes and Recreation

German contributor Sonja combined a Bavarian style strudel with an Oriental lentil filling, making a wonderful looking savoury pastry dish filled with lentils, squash, smoked tofu, and spices.

roundup10

justbloggs vegan

This British blogger brings us not one but two ideas for a fusion dish! Moroccan and Indian style ratatouille – or “rats” as it was called by their mother! The Moroccan twist adds apricots, almonds, ras-el-hanout and other Moroccan ingredients, and the Indian version has chilli, cardamom, potatoes and more. A very clever variation on a classic dish.

roundup11

Vegan Pastry School

Jenny from Vegan Pastry School combined two American dishes – gumbo and Cincinnati chilli. Both dishes were new to her – making this fit today’s prompt and yesterdays too! Gumbo and spaghetti is a unique combination that actually looks really good.

roundup12

Day 11: Favourite Cuisine – Where does your  favourite food come from?

Ichiban Vegan

Jess made this super cute looking Japanese omelette with mushrooms to showcase her favourite cuisine. Her blog post includes step-by-step photos showcasing how to make the omelettes (out of tofu!) which is really helpful.

roundup13

@entropyandennui

Nicole enjoys Asian inspired food, such as this General Tso’s Tofu which looks amazing! A good portion of tofu surrounded by broccoli sounds like a delicious meal. More proof that tofu is most certainly not boring!

roundup14

One Raw Bite

Alexa’s favourite cuisine is Japanese food, and she even has a “sushi wishlist” which sounds like a wishlist we should all have! She makes the observation that sushi is a bit like a tiny burrito, which I’d never thought of before but makes a whole lot of sense actually. Sushi is easily vegan friendly which is a great thing!

roundup15

Day 12: Dream Holiday Destination – what would you eat on your dream holiday?

Kittens Gone Lentil

On the brilliantly named blog Kittens Gone Lentil, Susan writes about her love of the city Seattle. The blog post would serve as a wonderful guide to anyone wishing to visit Seattle – featuring brunch, sandwiches, pizza – and best of all, ice cream sandwiches!

19880209553_fa4bb5a5aa_k

Herbivore’s Heaven

Jenny went to Girona in Spain and writes up a great review of her time there. Girona has filming sites from Game of Thrones, apparently, so it’d be great for fantasy fans. The vegan scene looks pretty good too, if this croissant and hot chocolate is anything to go by – vegan croissants are always a bonus!

roundup16

@kuri_thevegan

Kuri would like to go to London on holiday, and of course the UK is famous for afternoon tea – this cup of tea with cucumber sandwiches looks like a lovely afternoon snack!

roundup17

Day 13: Feed the Alien – An alien lands on your doorstep. What are they going to eat?

Tea and Sympatico

Tea and Sympatico has the brilliant idea of finding out where the alien stands on the matter of marmite. This is a divisive issue among humans, and shared opinions with the aliens could be the start of an interplanetary alliance! She makes croissants with her marmite – only taking fifteen minutes to make, so the alien doesn’t go hungry – brilliant!

roundup18

VGNGF – Vegan, Gluten Free, Delicious

Lianne from Germany blogs about sweet potato toast! And this isn’t like avocado toast – where the avocado goes on top of toast, no, here, the sweet potato is the toast. And doesn’t it look good? Topped with avocado, tomatoes, pesto, and cashews, this is definitely one to try.

roundup19

@asynja

I think this would win the alien over with sheer cuteness! Shannon’s heart shaped shortbread cookies with pink frosting look adorable and delicious and I can’t see how any alien could turn them down. Definitely a good idea for good space relations!

roundup20

VeganMoFo 2016 Blogrolls!

VeganMoFo 2016 Blogrolls!

Hi everyone! I hope you’re really excited about taking part in this year’s VeganMoFo. Both about taking part – and discovering new vegan blogs and accounts to follow!

Throughout the month we will be posting round ups of our favourite posts, but another great way to find sites to follow is via our blogroll pages.

First, we have the Official 2016 Blogroll. If you signed up for VeganMoFo 2016, you’re on there! Separated into categories of web blogs, YouTube accounts, Twitter accounts, Facebook accounts, and Instagram accounts, there are hundreds of different vegans you can discover. You can follow blogs via services like Feedly, or follow social media accounts on their own platform.

Next is the Around the World blogroll. Want to discover great food from a different country? You can find the VeganMoFo 2016 participants listed by country here.

If you are a little tired of English, visit our By Language blogroll. Those on this list post in a different language – some post in English also, but you can find a language to suit you!

If you’re in the United States, you can find MoFo’ers near you by checking out the By State blogroll. From Arizona to Washington, we have people taking part from all over the country.

Sadly, it was recently announced that The PPK – the birthplace of VeganMoFo – is closing soon. But if you are a member of the forum there, you can find your fellow forum members on the PPK MoFo’ers blogroll. Make the most of them while you can!

We also have a list of those doing VeganMoFo for the first time this year. Check out our First Time MoFo’ers blogroll and go and give them some support!

And finally, we have the Social Media blogroll. Would you rather check Instagram than read blogs? Stick to 140 characters on Twitter? Watch a video on YouTube, or follow a page on Facebook? Use this blogroll to find people to follow!

Media Alert! Spread the news of VeganMoFo ’16!

Media Alert! Spread the news of VeganMoFo ’16!

Hey everyone! I hope you’re excited for VeganMoFo. There’s not long to go now! Don’t forget, you have until the 21st October – this Friday! – to sign up for this year’s event. Sign up here! For those of you who have signed up (or are about to!) we have prepared a media alert for you to share. This is so that you can alert local and international press sources as to what is going on – and get some recognition for your MoFo’ing efforts!

corn2016-1

Here’s what to do:

  1. First things first, sign on up for VeganMoFo 2016
  2. Think & go Google search: What are the local media avenues in my community (state, country, district, town, county, area, favorite blogs, online news sources, etc.)? Is there an alt weekly? Is there a monthly, city-wide cultural magazine and/or website? Where do you see local food & dining news? For example, someone in Portland, OR, would send this to Eater PDX (and there are a ton of Eater sites out there!), Willamette Week, Portland Mercury, Oregonian FoodDay, Oregon Public Broadcasting, Portland Monthly Magazine and a bunch of their favorite culinary-focused blogs. Plus, the huge local vegetarian outreach group, Northwest Veg, other vegan-friendly events that have caught their eye, and maybe, The Kitchn, Serious Eats, and so on. Someone in the UK might send the alert to VegFest UK or one of the vegan magazines in the country! If you’ve been involved with media outlets/events, who are your contacts? Do you have friends that work in PR? Are they relevant and could they help get the word out? Do they like vegan cookies?  Is there a VegFest? Basically, find out their contact email/fax (right?! You can totally send faxes for free online these days in case you actually want to do that). Take note that there is typically a contact specifically *for* media alerts and press releases and calendar info with the bigger outlets. Go cover your ground and spread the word! These days, there are many vegan companies who post through social media (Facebook, Instagram, etc) and you can also send this alert in a message to them if you like – look for local vegan groups and pages, perhaps shops that regularly post vegan “news” articles, and anyone else who you think might be interested!
  3. Edit and download a personalized or general copy of the official VeganMoFo Media Alert, as linked below.
  4. Save the (ideally revised) Media Alert as a PDF with a clearly marked file name, for example “Media Advisory: VeganMoFo, The Vegan Month of Food Writing Returns November 2016″
  5. Next, copy/paste the Media Alert content into the actual email message from title down. I like to do this, it doubles your chances of being read. At the top, if I know who it’s going to well, I’ll often include a little note in a different font and color and sign it, like “Hey Darleen, I’d love for you to take a look at this news! I’ve got a whole month of xxx in store and daily updates! Let me know if you would like more information or photos for a story” (or something a little less lame then that, but I hope you get the point).
  6. Make sure you’ve attached a copy of the Media Alert PDF (or Word Doc or whatever you prefer) to the email itself.
  7. Press send and let that baby fly, preferably one at a time, but one big blind BCC can do in a pinch (sorry, old college marketing professors, it’s 2016 and I’m busy!)

And here’s how to do it! There are two versions of our shiny, official Media Alert all ready to go below:

OPTION 1) We’ve got the official Media Alert ready to be personalized right this way and copied below. It is super important to make sure you personalize the red area!

OPTION 2) Here’s a straightforward Media Alert to share as is.

So, get sharing, and get preparing for Vegan MoFo 2016!
